One of my biking friends is the star of this. This is a journey that has been in the making since at least October, 2008. Was originally predicted to happen in February, but then Niel got busy training for Ragnarok.

[27 Mar 2009|12:07am] |
This morning, Bob jumped into the bath tub after I got out of the shower. The drain is a bit slow. There was about 4" of water in the tub at the time. He stood in the water for a few minutes, looked around and then jumped out. He then watched me put my make up on with his soaking wet feet on the rug. It didn't seem to bother him at all.
The microwave in my apartment went to hell last week. It is built into the cupboards, so the building manager replaced it. The new one takes up the same amount of space but it is huge inside. I could put both cats in it.
We are reaching the point of being stupid busy at work with no sign of it letting up soon. I am going to use some of my OT pay to buy decent biking shoes. I still love working with piggies.

The company I work for employs just over 50 people. I work in the medical device research industry, which is somewhat safe from the recession.
Today, they laid off 8 employees. It was handled very well. The owners of the company had been having quite a few meetings this week. We were called to a meeting in the break room this afternoon. When I went in there and saw that MLC (the president of the company) was not making eye contact with anyone, I knew it was not a good meeting. We were each given an envelope with a room to go to. Mine said OR2, when I was walking there I saw that most of my coworkers were also going there. That was when I figured I was safe.
Later in the afternoon, PLC (MLC's wife) came to make sure that I was ok. She had noticed I looked vary scared in the meeting. I told her that I was terrified. She told me not to worry, I had a lot to offer the company and I was safe. I cannot say how happy I am that I work for a company that really cares about us.
So, yeah. Not exactly what I was expecting this week.
I am going to get more drunk now.

If you've never had norovirus, you are not missing out. I got 3 days off of work, clear liquids only (no actual food) until Saturday morning, and a sore bum.
I haven't felt well in 48 hours. I haven't eaten anything since 9pm last night. I am getting hungry but food will only aggravate it.
On the other hand, Pedia-lyte is a flex spending item. I will be existing on it for the next 40 hours or so.

My Weekend project:

It is a no knead recipe. Turned out really well even though I was very skeptical.
Will definitely be making this again. Probably a variation of it next weekend.

Went to Happy Hour with a punch of peeps from work tonight. The HR manager told me that next "Next time you come to work sick, your ass is mine." That is a direct quote.
I love the company I work for.

[12 Dec 2008|07:59pm] |
Last Saturday, I picked up my new bike. I've put a whopping 2.2 miles on it. It's been too cold to ride. Planning on riding tomorrow, might be an epic ride.
Been sick all week with the crap that everyone at work has. I'm feeling pretty decent today but it seems to be going to my ears. Hopefully, aforementioned bike ride will help tomorrow.
Today, the vet tech students from the college I went to toured the place I work at. I did manage to get a few minutes to catch up with my old instructors. That was pretty cool.
Tonight, I am having buffalo wing flavored kettle chips, a creme filled cupcake, and Carling's Black Label beer for supper because I can.

I put a new mountain bike on layaway.
I rode about 50 miles of dirt last week. I almost had a bad crash last Saturday because my current bike has cheap suspension. My foot came off the pedal on a small log pile. I like the fit of my old bike but I am tired of using my body as the suspension. After the ride, we went to look at a bike I was lusting over, I rode it and loved it.
Tonight, I took off work early to put some money down on it. It is a close out, the discount on it is incredible. As in, the had knocked almost $1000 off the MSRP. There isn't a single thing that I want to upgrade on it, other than a carbon fiber seat post to make it a little lighter.
I am hopefully picking it up Friday after work as I am taking off early again.

I rode about 50 miles of single track trail this last week. My bike's suspension inadequate. It is an entry level bike and isn't really set up for the trails I ride. I have been using my body to compensate for the lack of suspension. My body hurts.
I am going to get myself a new bike for Christmas. I have one picked out. I hope they still have it when I get my Christmas bonus. I might just have to put it on layaway Saturday to make sure.

23* is my threshold for riding on bike tights without another layer.
Frosty grass is sparkly and hypnotizing when riding at night.

I am also baking bacon chocolate chip cookies.

Voted yesterday. I am pleased with the results and relieved that my reproductive rights are safe for the next four years.
We rode the Minnesota River Bottoms trail last night. It was a beautiful ride. 19 miles of flowing single track. I cleared almost all of the obstacles that did not have a ride around. I was the only girl riding with 4 guys that ride a lot more than I do. I kept up pretty well. One of the guys I was riding with almost landed in 9 mile creek trying to ride off the raft. Big V was the instigator on that one. Hard to believe that it was still 65 degrees out when we finished just before 10pm. I am not ready for the cold weather.
Big V rode in his first race Sunday at Hillside park. He took 5th of 14 in his class, his time was in the top 20%. I am really proud of him. He rode 1/4 of the trail blind. The only time he rode there before, I went over the bars and we took a short cut out so that he could take me to the ER for stitches. Not to mention, he just started mountain biking in May of this year. I am hoping he will race again and I will be joining him on the trail when I join the Trail Patrol.
Saturday night, we rode the trail at Murphy-Hanrehen in the dark. This trail closes at sunset and night riding is illegal there. One of our friends applied for a permit to hold a night riding event there. 74 riders showed up. It was awesome.
My speed and ability on the trails has really improved this last week. I feel more confident in the dark. The cooler weather is pleasant to ride in. I am really having fun with this.
I am looking at a purchasing a new suspension fork for my bike. The cheapie that it came with is borderline scary with the way it bounces back at me when I hop the front tire over a log. If I keep it up with this one, I might be missing teeth.

I had my first review at work today. It was a pretty good one, which surprised me. Evidently, I am damaged mentally from working at the U for all those years.
I got to leave a bit early, which was really nice. I drove down to Eagan and rode a bike trail in the dark with Big V. Had a great time, I really enjoy biking with him. After, we went for food and drinks with a few others that were at the trail. I completely canceled out the calories I burned biking.
It was worth it. I've met some really cool peeps biking.

I got an email for my mom tonight. It snowed back home in eastern South Dakota today. Not sure how I feel about that.
I want to buy biking tights. Ones that are Windproof in the front and fleecy in the back with built in padding. I've been looking at what the bike shops have to offer online, with little results. Evidently, big girls don't wear bike tights but big guys do. Am guessing that I will be shopping the men's section. This is worse than looking for big girl bike shorts.
